Using Purging and Third-Party Utilities

There are utilities available both within Infor ERP VISUAL and from third parties that can help you do basic things such as purge old data, find errors, and rename items in your database.

Pros of using these tools

• Gets rid of old transactions without being very invasive with the database
• Gives you the opportunity to rename customers, vendors, parts, work orders, etc.
• Keeps all your historical data except for that which you choose to delete

Cons of using these tools

• Only transactions meeting specific requirements are purged, leaving many unwanted ones remaining
• Often these tools do not go deep enough to remove unwanted or erroneous data that can cause the system to be riddled with bugs and idiosyncrasies afterward
• Must be very cautious when using third-party tools that are not supported by Infor or specifically designed for Infor ERP VISUAL

Yuck!  It sounds like I might still have a mess afterwards.
